Process

Before we put pencil to paper, it is essential to gain a clear understanding of the parameters that will shape a project’s design development. Typically, these include the owner’s ambitions and budget, the operating company’s specific technical requirements and design direction, and sensitive issues that relate to the hotel’s location and prevailing culture. All these factors are addressed at the kick-off meeting where all key players are represented. We believe that working in tandem with the Owner and the Operator from the outset is of paramount importance.

Once we have the brief from the Client and the Operator, it is translated into meaningful planning sketches and conceptual imagery, along with a full explanation of our design intent. This is then presented for consideration and discussion. On approval we proceed to the most exciting stage of the project - the design phase.

Keeping in close communication with all interested parties, the design is progressed, determining and finalising all aspects from carpet designs to operational requirements. The culmination is a presentation of layout plans and major elevations, physical samples of fabrics and hard finishes, imagery and specially commissioned visuals – in order to give our Clients a real grasp of the design outcome.

After agreement, the creative process continues into the next stage with the production of the tender documentation. This includes all final design documentation, the general arrangement drawings, detail drawings and the FF&E specifications. Once completed these are issued to contractors for quotes and costing. Attention to the detail design drawings at this stage ensures thorough understanding of our requirements by the suppliers and fit-out contractors, enabling them to price and then fabricate in confidence.

The final phase is the construction period, during which time we review shop drawings, make project related visits; including visits to the contractors to assess prototype furniture and site visits to ensure compliance with our design and to resolve any design issues which may have arisen. The co-ordination of lighting equipment and Artwork placement is also covered during these visits.

In essence the whole design project is an ongoing process. Our objective will not have been achieved until our Clients are satisfied and duly proud of the Hotel, Restaurant or Bar that we have helped them create!
